Kintsugi

from $260.00

The golden seams in this underwater piece are reminiscent of Kintsugi (golden repair)—the Japanese art of mending broken ceramics with gold. Rather than trying to hide the break with an invisible seam, this ancient technique highlights the piece’s imperfections, using gold to create something more rare and beautiful than the original artefact. I love this philosophy, especially in a western society where we are encouraged to update and replace to keep up with trends. Sometimes the broken shells on the beach and even the broken parts of ourselves are not only salvageable, they are the parts that engender history and wisdom. As Rumi said “the wound is the place where the light enters you”.

Sizes Available:

  • 40cm x 60cm $260

  • 60cm x 90cm $495

  • 80cm x 120cm $695

I wish to honour and acknowledge the generations of  the Goodjinburra People, the Tul-gi-gin People and the Moorang-Moobar People of the Bundjalung Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the country I am blessed to live in. I recognise their continued connection to the land and waters of this beautiful place, and acknowledge that they never ceded sovereignty. I respect all Bundjalung Nation Elders and Ancestors, and all First Nations people.
